Gintama 2011

Ok first off i didn’t really follow Gintama. I only watched when i see really really funny screenshots of it. And now after watching the epic trailer which i’m sure i wouldn’t be seeing most of the stuff very often, i just have the urge to watch. But Can i watch the one that are in the current Spring 2011 ? Or is it better to start from the beginning?

So ok, after using a bit of google power now i know i can safely start off the current season gintama.

So i guess another anime added to my watch list. Gosh watching anime is hard work!.

It’s episodic and all but I think you’ll not get full enjoyment out of it if you don’t watch all the stuff that’s out already before watching the new stuff. Everyone complains when I say it but I strongly urge watching the first 201 episodes before moving onto the new ones. It’s worth the time because they are all hilarious and/or awesome anyway so you should watch them! And Gintama pretty much shot up to my number one favorite series of all time after I watched it all awhile ago, so this isn’t coming from someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about. And being such a fan of course I want more people interested in it…but I also want to make sure you don’t ruin its potential (even if you do enjoy it) for yourself. Without knowing all the dynamics in the character relations and that sort of thing you’ll still be able to enjoy it a lot…but not nearly as much as you could if you had seen the previous episodes. It’s a very self-referencing series…hell almost every episode in the 2011 season of it are about stuff from the first season, or things you wouldn’t understand without having seen it. There’s enough there that you can still enjoy it without knowing any of it, but you’re really killing a lot of the enjoyment you could potentially get out of it otherwise. Besides, the old episodes are all great and not something you should skip. The new ones won’t disappear, so why not just start where you’re supposed to with any show – episode 1? Though a lot of people say the first 25~30 aren’t a good showing of what it’s like (which is accurate, but don’t skip them, just stick with it) but you should still do that I think. A lot of people think just because it’s a comedy you can jump in anywhere…but I really highly suggest not doing that. You’d enjoy it, but not as much as you would if you just did it right.

It’s kind of like people who watch FMP: Fumoffu without having seen the original FMP series. Sure, it’s hilarious still, and you get the basics of it – but you miss out on a LOT of the jokes, references, and subtle throwbacks to the series itself. So you may enjoy it, but at the same time you ruin a lot of it for yourself without even realizing it.

    But it’s up to you.
