Not an otaku, but just lingering passions

The years before blogs and tv was king

My previous site was otakurean.com , i talked a lot about my stupid-days-as-an-otaku-who-spends-money-on-silly-things-that-matters-only-to-otaku and sometimes i regret that i spent those money because if i didn’t i would have more money now.

I hardly talk about anime though because “being an otaku isn’t all about anime”, then i think why the fuck did i consider myself to be an otaku back then?. Is not like i have no social circle nor was i unpopular nor did i had problems dealing with people. Probably , back then before dannychoo became uber famous and rich, otaku was cool. Maybe something like an identity for lost young-adults. I remember when dannychoo.com was still a personal site thats has great gundam model making tips but today, I don’t know what the hell it is anymore. I don’t even visit it anymore. I’m happy for him to make it big and yes i’ve signed up and attended his blogging workshop and even shook his hands before. But .. I don’t know, i don’t feel like talking about him or his site anymore. Let’s move on,

Next! back to topic. So my previous site, i hardly talk about anime. Before i started buying figurines and stuff i was watching anime. In fact, when i was even younger, the only box i had was the TV. internet back then was 56k , game consoles back then was sega, gameboy (fat) , i highly doubt there’s blogs, probably geocities and alike. So TV was my best friend, TV shows back then was fucking good. There wasnt even cable!! or at least cable was just too far out expensive. Normal TV was great. I watched so many animes on tv. Again I highly doubt that i called it anime, probably Cartoons. And yes, anime back then was dubbed in chinese, most likely Taiwan imports. But i highly enjoyed it. I was lost in that little anime world back then.

Tv start to decline when the internet and cable starts kicking in, more people can afford those luxury and slowly normal TV just became re-runs and started to suck. But before tv sucked too much , the titles i remember watching on tv are , (in no time order nor preferences and whenever i have the “OH YA THIS TOO!” moments), Funny how the 90s i remember were a really great decade of animes. Yes there are titles dating even further than the 90s but i watched it when i was a kid in the 90s. I was born 1987, so my most decent memories probably started from 1991 or 1992. If you watched too much tv like i did in those times, hit me up via comments or link a post to this.

Actually i’m not sure if i caught Space Battleship yamato before on tv. Is funny how sometimes memories can feel fuzzy. Well i got a feeling i’ve watched more than this list i compiled. But i guess is as good as it gets for now. If i can remember i’ll do up a similar post again.

Busy campaigning!

Yes you are looking at a screenshot. Yes I am powering my Mount&Blade:Warband via my laptop , specs below

  • Intel T4300, 2.1Ghz
  • Intel GMA 4500M , up to 732 MB DVMT
  • 2 GB ram , DDR2 i assume.
  • 250GB HDD, 5400rpm i assume as well

The best part of this game? I can run in DirectX 7 which means my 2 year old laptop can pretty much crank up a bit more details and not lag. I have to save up and buy a laptop that can game. I would love to get a desktop. But i will hold that thought till i found a stable place to rent. Anyway, I haven’t been that obsessed with a game since Diablo 2. In fact, I been losing sleep over this single player game. It feels like, this game is what I’ve been looking for many many eons. I don’t foresee i will complete this game if ever this game have an ending.

Fire & Sword is coming out by May 4th. – correction – IT IS OUT! 1.2GB worth, downloading through steam as i type this post(probably done and I’m playing when this post comes out) and loving the bundle i bought last week, USD$19.90 for 3 games. Although i highly doubt i will play the original , Mount&Blade. But you never know. Gosh, i can play Fire & Sword(soon!). 😛 sorry Owen_S , TF2 hat will wait till i’m done downloading Fire & Sword first.. Also, until that hat is trade-able i guess. I bought TF2 but never really got into gaming it. I don’t think i will have any time for any game until i get bored of this.. I mean I been playing Killing Floor and so far the past few months i rack up 94hours in total. Mount & Blade?, i got 65 hours clocked since 29th April!. (add another 8hours or more by the time you read it)

Side track a little, I want to talk a little about steam. I never like to buy games firstly i have to take a 40min bus ride into town to get it. Games are never cheap. Expensive isn’t equal to good game as well. So more than often i “try” games out before i buy because buying a game means forgoing 10 meal worth of money. Which I can live without gaming but not 10 meals. So then i rather meet friends and game in Lan shops but really how much hours can you afford? I mean going out and all means spending money on food outside, spending money on this and that. I dont have that much luxury money.

Along comes Steam, This is how gaming should have been. Digital copy of games should be cheap. Why? There’s no need to go through the physical disc production and no need for logistics, Internet “tubes” does all that. There’s no need for additional promotion because gamers on steam will see it. There’s no need to go through that many middle man anymore thus lowering price, i mean by publisher selling games to distributor, selling games to shops, finally I buying that damn game at $60 with a box, a ton of air, a few or one disc, oh not to forget a instruction manual in it. Seriously speaking, if i spend months and months thinking on what game to buy when it was $60, how many games do you think i’ve bought the past decade?. Now factor in steam sales, how much time do you think i need to use if i see a game that i might like for $5? If is on sale , i will buy it within sale timing. If that is the normal price, i will wait for a sale to buy it. Sales happen every week, at least twice!. Having said that, i’ve spent almost USD$200 the past 4-5months through Steam because games can be purchased easily and seamlessly. Now, i do not need to take a bus out, i just need to turn on my laptop, pay, download and Game. However that USD$200 isn’t entirely ALL my spending but i can say right now i have about 20 or so games in my steam. Thats about the amount of games i bought the past 10 years when it was still a CD and “take-bus-to-town” thing. Now in 4-5 months time, i spent less but got more games. Who wins in this case? If you were a game developer, think about it. Would you rather a sale of 1000 units at $60(shop retail) or 100,000 units at $15(steam retail) ?

Gosh i should have make this into a separate post. But doing this post at 2:30am isn’t really helping me much. So i decided to stop here now. Here’s a video to watch , I like the trance/house *insert music* that they use.

I also watched this ,

Damn the Harry potter looks good. Although i must say Deathly Hallow part 1 was fucking boring. Oh Transformer looks good too, pity the lack of Megane fox but wow, Underwear model? More bikini action? I hope so :D, after all, the kids that watch Transformer are all grown up now and we want boobies! Isn’t it ?

I been wanting to watch Madoka but sorry, Mount&blade first. OMG Fire&Sword is done downloading!! (almost 3am)

Now, Surrender or Die!

Am I attempting to catalog the whole aniblogosphere ?

Title says it all.. Am I attempting to catalog the whole aniblogosphere? If so , where do i stop? At what point is enough enough? The 355 aniblogger project will feature an aniblogger a day. On top of that , i still have blog roll that ranges from A to Z to #(numbers) & team and solo blogs, which by the way is still growing as i slowly add links to it. So Let’s just say there’s an average of 10 blogs per alphabet, that will give me…….. *crunching*… 520 blogs. Not forgetting that there are blogs that starts with numbers.. Would a 1000 blog be a modest estimate ?

But the aniblogosphere is funny universe, blogs come and go. There are blogs that looked like a bright star with infinite future but alas ran out of steam earlier than expected and.. collapsed. There are blogs that are deemed dead but somehow managed to come back even stronger. There are blogs that came out with supernova energy but disappear the next moment you open your eyes to marvel at its beauty. There are blogs that seems to be in the shadows, darting in and out of existence  and in one form or another..

But of course, not forgetting the other parallel universe that exist alongside the aniblogosphere. We have the twitterverse, anime-planet, MAL and your whatnots. I attempt, correction, I’m attempting to link all of em in one spot, and that is my blog. Kinda like, Decade of Kamen Rider. The one that will destroy everything and connect the 9 worlds.

What am I saying? I guess blogging in the middle of the night at 1am isn’t really a good choice. You start to hallucinate and think of things in a weird way. What is my interest? Blogging about the Anime or blogging about the bloggers that blogs anime?

I reckon, I guess is the mix of both. I don’t know. I guess I’ll sleep on this first. I just realise the related post thingy will only work if i tag my post. T_T looks like i gotta get into the habit of tagging my post then.

Should i include “dead” blogs?

I been looking through my bookmarks and google reader. There are many blogs out there that are really really good but at the moment the writer/owner are missing in action. Probably real life taken over or simply just burnt out from blogging. So for my 365(355) project, i was wondering should i include them? The (un)dead/zombie blogs?

What do you think? Let me know. If i don’t get much replies, i’ll go with my gut feeling and revive the dead.
